Looking for events in Market Drayton this autumn? One of the town’s most popular family attractions is back as part of the 10th anniversary Ginger & Spice Festival.
The Original Biscuit Bakers Heritage Gingerbread Trail & Contest returns to Market Drayton on Saturday 26th September, inviting visitors of all ages to explore the town while celebrating its famous gingerbread heritage.
Running from 9.30am until 4.30pm, this free family activity takes you on a trail through Market Drayton, where more than 40 local businesses and organisations will showcase imaginative gingerbread characters in their windows. This year’s fun theme is “No.1 Hits from Chart-Topping Solo Artists”, so expect plenty of creativity, music-inspired displays and a few surprises along the way.
Whether you’re visiting the festival for the first time or you’re a regular, the Heritage Gingerbread Trail is one of the most enjoyable things to do in Market Drayton, offering a fun way to discover the town’s independent shops, businesses and rich history.
Vote for your favourite gingerbread character
As you complete the trail, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favourite gingerbread display. The business receiving the most public votes will be crowned the People’s Choice Award winner, with a runner-up also recognised.
The Mayor of Market Drayton, Councillor Tim Manton, will also select a Judge’s Choice winner and runner-up, celebrating the creativity and effort of the participating businesses.
Complete your trail form correctly and you’ll also be entered into a free prize draw to win a children’s gingerbread hamper, with one winner and one runner-up announced after the festival.
Pick up your trail map
Trail maps will be available from the Heritage Gingerbread Trail Station on the High Street in Market Drayton from 9.30am on festival day.
The trail station will once again be hosted by volunteers Jane Moore and Julie Pryce, who will also be displaying their fascinating collection of Market Drayton gingerbread memorabilia, offering visitors a glimpse into the town’s unique gingerbread-making history.

Headline sponsors Original Biscuit Bakers, based in Market Drayton, will also be bringing their delicious handcrafted gingerbread biscuits to the festival’s Spicy Artisan Street Market. Visitors can browse their beautifully hand-decorated biscuit creations, including the much-loved heritage gingerbread biscuit, Billington’s.
Families can also head to the Original Biscuit Bakers Children’s Crafting Area on Queen Street, where children can enjoy free gingerbread decorating activities throughout the day.
